FAQ for the Southland Women’s Hui
First - who are these KIND Women and what are they all about?
KIND Women is an extraordinarily random mix of Southland women who have been united by their desire to encourage and serve their community with a focus on promoting equality.
Our aim is to raise awareness on issues of inequality, and to inspire and support women in Southland to address these.
Our events follow the following basic principles:
Come as you are
Accessible - we don’t want there to be any barriers to coming to our events
Focus on sharing, learning, encouraging and supporting each other
Broad participation - diversity, connecting and networking
KIND - Kicking IN Doors and being KIND to each other.
What is the Hui all about?
The purpose of the Hui is to provide an opportunity for women to get together to talk about women’s issues and equality and how to achieve it. The theme for the day is how can we kick in the door so all women have the opportunity to experience equality, live the lives they want to, support and empower each other, be kind and build a strong network of women in our community. We can’t create equality by doing nothing. The Hui is also going to be a fun day for women to get together.
What is an unconference?
We found this definition on the internet - ‘A loosely structured conference emphasizing the informal exchange of information and ideas between participants, rather than following a conventionally structured programme of events.’
At this unconference, attendees will create sessions at the start of the day, making for an energizing and freewheeling exchange about the things we want to talk about throughout the day.
We know that everyone who attends will have something to offer, share and learn. You don’t have to be an experienced presenter or speaker to offer a subject for a session. We will hold a session at the start of the day to give you some tips and ideas about how to run a session. Its likely you will not be alone to host a session.
Who should attend the Hui? And why?
This Hui is for Women or people who identify as women. If you have any questions about this please email us.
We would encourage women of all backgrounds to attend including women of all ages, professions, and ethnicities. The purpose is to bring together a wide range of people so we can share our experiences, passions, desires, expertise and learn from each other. Anyone who is interested should attend.
We have tried to keep the registration fee affordable but if this is not affordable for you please email us and we will see what we can do. We don’t want cost to prevent someone who really wants to attend from attending.
Where is the Hui being held?
We are holding the Hui at the Omaui YMCA camp. This is slightly out of town and we plan to provide transport for those who wish to use it. This will take people out on Saturday morning and bring people back at both 9pm on Saturday night and on Sunday morning if required. Please email us directly if you require transport to the Hui.
What does it cost and what does that cover?
The cost to attend the Hui is $25. This includes morning and afternoon tea, lunch and dinner. The Leaning In with Helen Clark event was a fundraiser for this event which is why it is so affordable.
There is an option to stay over night on Saturday. If you would like to stay over there is an additional cost of $12.50. If you plan to stay please bring your own pillow and blankets/sleeping bag.
Do you have dietary requirements? Please email us directly with any dietary requirements.
